The Woodruff Middle School PTO fall fundraiser was a “tremendous success this year,” according to Principal Denise D. Brown. So many students worked hard to sell items to friends and family. One hundred sixty-six students sold more than $50 of items and were treated to a Fun Day, 42 students sold more than $150 in products and were treated to a limousine ride to lunch at Carolina Grill, and all students who sold more than $50 in merchandise were eligible for a drawing for a 32” flat screen television. Sixth grader Phillip Riser was the lucky recipient of the television! In addition, Noah Simmons received a cash prize for being the top seller in the entire school.
Profit from fundraisers is being used to purchase electronic slates for teachers and electronic voters (e-voters) for students. The electronic slate is a touch screen device that allows a teacher to provide interactive lessons via a Promethean board from anywhere in the classroom. E-voters allow students to interact with instruction by responding to queries during instruction. Teacher Cassandra Barksdale has enjoyed using these new devices in her classroom. The use of the e-voters on a daily basis allows me to assess my students after each lesson. This helps me realize which concepts the students understand and what I need to re-teach. My students and I are extremely excited to have this technology in our math classroom.
