SC All-State Band selects John Lehman to Participate

On Saturday, January 7, 2012, students from across the entire state of South Carolina auditioned for the 2012 South Carolina Region Band. The audition consisted of several sections. Each student had to play scales, chromatic scale, and a solo. They were also required to sight-read two selections and know the definition of musical terms. They were also graded on their tone quality. Students who scored in the top percentage on their particular instrument made callbacks for the final audition. This audition consisted of the same requirements but brought together the best instrumentalist from the five regions in the state to compete for the South Carolina All State Band.
John Lehman, a trumpet player at Woodruff Middle School, participated in both of these auditions. John scored in the top of all the trumpet players in Region One. Region One consists of the following counties: Greenville, Spartanburg, Laurens, Oconee, and Pickens. By scoring in the top percentage in our region they auditioned on Saturday, January 21, at Lexington High School for the South Carolina All State Band.
John will be participating in the South Carolina All State Band Clinic to be held on March 9-11, 2012 at Furman University. They will present a free public concert on Sunday, March 11 at 1:30 at McAlister Auditorium on the campus of Furman University.
John’s band directors are Barry Wash and John Carroll. They study privately with George Wenger of Spartanburg.
